Limited Edition Cassette (Pro-dubbed)
Cassette + Digital Album
Lose your mind and drift. Joshua Slusher (Opponents, Creeplings) and Jesse DeRosa (Grasshopper, Shingles) have crafted synth jams for deep space travel. Both have been honing mind melding jams, independently, for at least a decade. The already prolific output they have compiled, in a short period of time, as The Spiritual Switchboard is a testament to the musical adaptability of both. As with their previous debut on Baked Tapes, "All Is Error/Oscilloclast" is meant for deep contemplation and spiritual transcendence. Opening with vibrational, dirty trails, there is a certain sense of doom here, not present in the debut. There is a sort of early Godspeed You! Black Emperor style tension being built out of static and heavy riffing. This breaks in a swirl of dirty acid noise and high tones that dissipate into psychedelia. The side returns to the original riff, building out again into a sprawling cavern, before fading out, setting up the second side. Side B is an immediate, gathering storm. The noise gains the sort of rhythm of a sparking transformer, illuminating a passing el train. This coalesces into something more sinister, grinding like a train derailment. This is a darker journey, into greater uncertainty. They sounds are uncomfortable, laden with anxiety, and the grinding noise we are left with, does nothing to comfort the existential dread. Yet, its that dread that makes this work important, and very much a sign of the times.
